Free Money
·
Where will you go?
I will go outside the
Tuscana Apartment complex.
·
What kind of people will you approach?
I will approach the
people how pass by, mostly students.
·
What will you say to get the conversation started?
“Hi, are you interested
in getting free money?”
·
What is your plan for the conversation?
I am planning on offering
them a dollar if they say yes to the question and telling them that I am trying
to give back to the community.
·
Out of five attempts, how many dollar bills do you think you
will be able to give away.
Out of the five attempts,
I predict 3 of them will stop and engage in conversation and ultimately take the
dollar. I predict the others won’t even stop for the conversation and continue
with their business.
Recordings:
I found that most people thought I was crazy and didn’t believe
my story. They thought it was a trick. On the other hand, I found some people
to be greedy and just took the money and left. I think overall, it was pretty
easy to give away a dollar especially to college students who need money.
Gabie,
ReplyDeleteI loved the plan you had for giving out your dollar, and from your recordings I can tell that things went pretty smoothly! It's funny because in my blogpost, I actually made almost the same comment on college kids always being willing to accept free things (especially money). Your post was easy to understand, but maybe next time you could elaborate more in your reflection. How many people ended up taking the money total? How did you feel as you were conducting this exercise? Overall, awesome job! unfortunately I couldn't watch your videos. (If you could post them as YouTube imbedded videos that would be great!) So, a friend and I decided to videotape each other for the two videos. We actually had mixed results (i.e. a lot of people didn't actually want to take the money because, I guess, it's a little weird to just go handing out one dollar bills). However, I think that you had a smart approach - saying that you wanted to give back to the community. I, like you, decided to start with the by asking if the person wanted free money and fanned out the bill a little bit, and I had a little better success rate than my friend. You are a true businessman in the making if you can get everyone that you offered a dollar to take it! (By the way you didn't say! How many people took the money?)

Hey Gabie, this was great to watch. You had a great plan of how to ask people and approached them confidently. When I was doing this, the most important aspect for me was to approach people confidently, and try to stay as serious as possible. It is difficult to understand why someone would just offer you a dollar, so it is impressive that you were able to do so well with this assignment. I had a lot of fun with this assignment and enjoyed interacting with people on the street in with a new outlook. Usually people that you see walking around on the street do not seem very kind, and the last thing you would expect from them is to hand you free money.
